Bombay Chai: the Spices of India

Today’s Tea: Bombay Chai by Boston Tea

Sometimes, as a perk of doing what we TeaBloggers do, we get contacted by companies to try new teas that we hadn’t found on our own search for a good cuppa.  The Boston Tea Company sent all of us reviewers a very generous sample package, so in the next coming weeks a fair amount of reviews will be cropping up.  Goodtea already did one on the lovely Blueberry Kiwi White tea below.  However, let me get started with the fragrant Bombay chai.

The first tea I tried out of my samples was the fragrant Bombay Chai. It’s a loose leaf black tea with cinnamon, ginger, clove, and anise added in.  As you can see in the picture, the tea is a lovely mix of whole spices.  A good tip though, is to make sure that you stir up or shake up the tea in order to make sure that you can get all the spices in your tea.  Steeped with a rolling boil heated water for a good 8 minutes, the tea is a spicy tisane.  I would definitely recommend steeping it for this long in order to bring out a full flavor.  The cloves and anise sparkle along with the cinnamon and ginger.  They truly are the stars of the tea, with the black tea playing the back up note of the tea.  A splash of milk or hint of honey add a pleasant touch to the tea, but aren’t necessary.

Overall, the tea is a really nice spicy tea.  If you enjoy cinnamon, clove, ginger, or anise, you’ll really enjoy this tea.
